Special Exhibit in the Bristol History Room Saturday, February 4th!

Bristol History Room Special Exhibit:  Babylonian (cuneiform) writings on 4,000 year-old clay tablets. The tablets were acquired for the Bristol Public Library in the 1920’s by long-time Director, Mr. Charles Wooding. This will be the first public exhibit  of these ancient tablets in recent times. Translated by Elizabeth E. Payne, former Conservator, Babylonian Collection, Yale University. No Charge.

In addition to its regular hours, the Bristol Public Library’s local history room will be open from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on the following Saturdays:

Visitors will have a chance to win a free gift.  On permanent display in the Bristol History Room are nearly a hundred historic images including an entire wall devoted to Lake Compounce. There are exhibits of locally made clocks, New Departure bells and Civil War photographs.  Our collection includes: books, pictures and postcards, city directories, yearbooks, maps, diaries, church and assessor’s records, newspapers on microfilm, cemetery, birth, death and marriage indexes.

Saturday Hours for the Bristol History Room this Fall!

The Bristol History Room, which houses the local history collection of the Bristol Public Library, will be open monthly on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:30 AM on the following dates: September 20, October 18, November 15 and December 13.  The Bristol History Room collection includes books about Bristol, pictures and postcards, maps, diaries, church and assessor’s records, newspapers on microfilm, cemetery, birth, death and marriage indexes, city directories and yearbooks. BPL, the Friends & the Memorial Military Museum Collaborate to Tell the Story of Bristol Soldiers in WW I

On Monday, August 4, at 1:00 PM, The Bristol Public Library & the Memorial Military Museum will co-sponsor a program entitled: “Bristol Boys in WW I: The Yankee Division & the Battle of Seicheprey.”  The evening will be hosted by Bristol Press Columnist & City Historian, Bob Montgomery and will tell the story of the Bristol soldiers during the first encounter of American and German troops in the First world War.  There will also a presentation and exhibit of original artifacts from the battle and the First World War courtesy of the Memorial Military Museum.
