Soup & Movie Social at Manross Library

Celebrate National Soup Month with soup & a movie on Tuesday, January 28th. at 1:30 p.m., at the Manross Memorial Library.   Lee Daniel’s The Butler is an award-winning drama based on the life White House butler Eugene Allen.  Bring your lunch.  The library will provide soup & coffee.   There is no charge for this program, but registration is requested.  For more information, or to register, please visit the library,  or call: (860) 584-7790.  Manross Library is located at 260 Central Street in Forestville, CT.  Refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library.

Library Holiday Hours Scheduled

Both the Main Library and the F.N. Manross Memorial Library will observe the following holiday hours:

Tuesday, December 24: close at noon
Wednesday, December 25: closed all day
Thursday, December 26 through Monday, December 30: open normal hours

Tuesday, December 31: close at noon
Wednesday, January 1: closed all day
Thursday, January 2: back to normal hours

Libraries Closed for Columbus Day

Bristol Public Library and its branch, F.N. Manross Memorial, will be closed Monday, October 14, to celebrate Columbus Day. The Library and its branch will resume normal hours on Tuesday, October 15.

While we’re closed, you may still drop off items in our book drops or use the library catalogs to place holds, check your library card, or renew items. The library’s databases will also remain accessible with your library card while we’re closed. These resources can be accessed through our website bristollib.com.

It’s Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week 2013Banned Books Week is an annual event highlighting the value of free and open access to information. Observed since 1982, this annual American Library Association event reminds Americans not to take this democratic freedom for granted. To learn more about Banned Books Week, visit ala.org/bbooks.

To commemorate Banned Books Week, Bristol Public Library is hosting two events:

Scandalous Cinema September 23-26 & 28 at 2 pm, we will be showing films based on banned or challenged books. Click here for the complete schedule. Free snacks provided by Price Chopper.

Guess the banned or challenged book! Win a fabulous Banned Books Week tote and a $15 Starbucks gift card. From September 23-30 come in to the High Street library and read the clues given for three books that have been challenged or banned. Fill out an entry form with the title of one of the books, your name, and your phone number. Then place your entry form in the box. The winner will be drawn on October 1. Gift card supplied by our Friends.
