The First World War began 100 years ago in August in 1914.  For Bristol,  and the US Army, the war began in earnest on April 20, 1918 when German and American ground forces encountered each other for the first time during a German raid on the French commune  of Seicheprey.  In this historic battle, Bristol soldiers —members of the “Yankee” Division— were front and center.  They were untested troops deployed as “sacrifice” detachments far forward of the main allied lines.

The Bristol Public Library and the Memorial Military Museum are proud to co-sponsor a presentation including the story and facts concerning the battle, a display of vintage artifacts and the personal stories of local people involved or affected by the  events at Seicheprey.   Hosted by City Historian and Bristol Press columnist, Bob Montgomery.
