The Children’s Department at the Bristol Public Library invites children of all ages to participate in a day-long environmental awareness fair, SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2013 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The event is FREE and sponsored by the Friends of the Bristol Public Library.

The “Reading the Environment” Fair begins with stories and fun with SUPER PANDA the Eco-Friendly super hero at 10:00 a.m. Super Panda is dressed in a green cape and helps children understand the importance of taking care of the earth and endangered animals. Children can get their picture taken with Super Panda.

The CRAYON RECYCLE STATION opens at 11:00 a.m. Children help recycle old crayons in order to create new crayons. The station consists of crayon paper removal depot, crayon breaking bins, and crayon color sorting stations. Eco-friendly crafts will also be available in the recycling station.

The “Good-For-You” Café opens for refreshing and healthy food and drink at 12:00 p.m. and closes at 1:45 p.m. At the café children can sample food that helps keep a body healthy, productive, and strong. The food and drink are from Shop Rite of Bristol!

The musical duo VIC & STICKS performs with recycled musical instruments at 2:00 p.m. “Everyone can make a difference” through respect for one-self, for others and respect for this planet. Vic and Sticks promote a message of kindness. They sing about the three “R’s”…reduce, reuse, recycle…the Recycled Rhythm Program also talks about how recycling helps the world around us. Children learn that the best place to practice “reuse” is at their neighborhood library. The music show is fast paced and encourages audience participation, as the children in the audience become part of the Recycled Rhythm Band! For more about VIC & STICKS visit www.vicandsticks.com.

All day kids can follow the “Friendly Footprints” around the Children’s Department to learn about important environmental facts. At the end of the day all children receive a RECYCLE SHERIFF badge that makes them official protectors of the environment.
