The Bristol History Room, which houses the local history collection of the Bristol Public Library, will be open monthly on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:30 AM on the following dates: September 20, October 18, November 15 and December 13. The Bristol History Room collection includes books about Bristol, pictures and postcards, maps, diaries, church and assessor’s records, newspapers on microfilm, cemetery, birth, death and marriage indexes, city directories and yearbooks. There are nearly a hundred historic images of Bristol on permanent display in the local history room and temporary exhibits of pictures of Lake Compounce and objects made at the American Silver Company. On Monday, August 4, at 1:00 PM, The Bristol Public Library & the Memorial Military Museum will co-sponsor a program entitled: “Bristol Boys in WW I: The Yankee Division & the Battle of Seicheprey.” The evening will be hosted by Bristol Press Columnist & City Historian, Bob Montgomery and will tell the story of the Bristol soldiers during the first encounter of American and German troops in the First world War. There will also a presentation and exhibit of original artifacts from the battle and the First World War courtesy of the Memorial Military Museum. The Bristol Public Library & the Manross Memorial Library will be closed Saturday May 24, Sunday May, 25 & Monday May 26, 2014 in observance of Memorial Day. The Bristol Public Library will re-open on Tuesday, May 27 at 8:30 AM and the Manross Memorial Library will re-open Tuesday, May 27 at 10:00 AM.
