Armed Forces Day Program: Fire on the Mountain

The library is pleased to observe Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 21 @ 2:00 PM, with a special showing of the 1996 documentary film Fire on the Mountain, about the exploits of the Tenth Mountain Division, an elite group of mountain soldiers who fought decisive battles in the Italian Alps during World War II. The film also keeps up with some well-known alumni from the Tenth. There will be a display of memorabilia and short presentation before the film. Special Guest: WWII Tenth Mountain Division veteran, and Bristol “Hometown Hero,” Tony Sileo.  Bristol Public Library, 5 high Street, Bristol, CT.

Saturday Hours for the Bristol History Room this Fall!

The Bristol History Room, which houses the local history collection of the Bristol Public Library, will be open monthly on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:30 AM on the following dates: September 20, October 18, November 15 and December 13.  The Bristol History Room collection includes books about Bristol, pictures and postcards, maps, diaries, church and assessor’s records, newspapers on microfilm, cemetery, birth, death and marriage indexes, city directories and yearbooks. BPL, the Friends & the Memorial Military Museum Collaborate to Tell the Story of Bristol Soldiers in WW I

On Monday, August 4, at 1:00 PM, The Bristol Public Library & the Memorial Military Museum will co-sponsor a program entitled: “Bristol Boys in WW I: The Yankee Division & the Battle of Seicheprey.”  The evening will be hosted by Bristol Press Columnist & City Historian, Bob Montgomery and will tell the story of the Bristol soldiers during the first encounter of American and German troops in the First world War.  There will also a presentation and exhibit of original artifacts from the battle and the First World War courtesy of the Memorial Military Museum.
