The Gargoyles are Coming October 7!

On Wednesday, October 7 @ 6:30 PM, Bristol Public Library, on 5 High Street, will host An Education in the Grotesque: The Gargoyles of Yale University , presented by CT author and photographer, Mathew Duman.   The presentation will share stories about the often humorous history, meaning and architecture behind these “New World” grotesques adorning the buildings at Yale.  Copies of the book of the same title will be available for signing at the event.  There is no charge for this program, but registration is required. For more information, or to register, please visit the library or call (860) 584-7787 x 2023. Refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library.  

October Coffee House Concert: Marc Berger

As part  of the Library Coffee House series, American roots artist Marc Berger will be performing w/ guitarist Richie Depaolo at Bristol Public Library on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 PM.  Marc who has been an opening act for Bob Dylan & other national acts has been described as “One part Springsteen and one part Dylan, but with pure charisma that is all Berger ” (I Jayvee at TRT, theroundtableonline.com).  Marc is currently promoting his album Ride, inspired by his lifelong love affair with the American West. The BPL Coffee House is a series of free monthly concerts with refreshments provided courtesy of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library.  
Upcoming concerts include the Kenn Morr Band on November 6th at 6:30 PM and an afternoon holiday performance by Irish Fiddler Deirdre McMorrow on December 10 at 1:00 PM.  All performances will be at Bristol Public Library, 5 High Street, in Bristol, CT.  Information and RSVP is available at the library or by calling: (860) 584-7787 x 2023.

Women’s Work in World War II

On Tuesday, September 30 at 1:30 PM, Bristol Public Library will host a presentation entitled Women’s Work in WW II with historian and author John Cilio. The program will tell the story of the women who stepped into jobs with minimal training and no experience in order to keep America running during the war.  There is no charge for this event. On the Job with Rick Spencer!

Bristol Public Library will host an afternoon music program with internationally known American folk musician, historian & staff musician at Mystic Seaport, Rick Spencer, on Saturday, September 13 at 2:00 PM. The program entitled On the Job: Historic Songs of American Work and Trades will also include a presentation on the labor movement in America & the modern use of work songs.
