Friends of the Bristol Public Library to Hold Used Book Mini-Sale

The Friends of the Bristol Public Library will hold a used book mini-sale on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11 in the lower level of the Bristol Public Library, 5 High Street, Bristol. The sale hours are 9:00AM to 4:00PM on Friday and 9:00AM to noon on Saturday, with an adult fiction half-price sale on Saturday from noon to 2:00PM. The sale features 2,000 gently used fiction and non-fiction books for children, teens and adults priced from 50 cents to $2.00, and a large selection of specially priced books at a slightly higher cost.

The Friends are also holding an ongoing mini-sale at the Manross Memorial Library, 260 Central Street, Forestville, starting on June 10 and running until the end of the month. This sale features hardcover and softcover books for readers of all ages, and the books can be purchased whenever the library is open.

The sales will allow shoppers to stock up on summer reading material, and the proceeds will help fund special program mini-grants for children, young adults, and adults at both Bristol libraries.

CThumanities (formerly the Connecticut Humanities Council) has announced that they have agreed to sponsor a major portion of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library 2016 Author Luncheon!  CtHumanities will be sponsoring the event by means of a CThumanities Quick Grant. The Quick Grant will pay for the author’s honorarium and travel among other expenses.  CThumanites joins The DoubleTree by Hilton as major sponsors of the Luncheon, which will feature best-selling author Stewart O’Nan on July 14th.  Tickets, which include a plated lunch at the authorflier DoubleTree, are $28.00.  Tickets are available at Bristol Public Library, Manross Memorial Library in Forestville and through the Friends of the Bristol Public Library. Armed Forces Day Program: Fire on the Mountain

The library is pleased to observe Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 21 @ 2:00 PM, with a special showing of the 1996 documentary film Fire on the Mountain, about the exploits of the Tenth Mountain Division, an elite group of mountain soldiers who fought decisive battles in the Italian Alps during World War II. The film also keeps up with some well-known alumni from the Tenth. There will be a display of memorabilia and short presentation before the film. Special Guest: WWII Tenth Mountain Division veteran, and Bristol “Hometown Hero,” Tony Sileo.  Bristol Public Library, 5 high Street, Bristol, CT.
