Hi Friends! The children’s department at the Bristol Public Library has plenty to offer this November. Please join us for all of the fun.
Tuesday, November 5 is Election Day and all public schools in Bristol are closed. Because of this, there will be no regular story times or reading clubs on November 5. We will have election themed coloring sheets for all of those too young to vote!
Thursday, November 7 is our Early Childhood Fair. The fair will run from 10-11:30 a.m. and also from 5-7 p.m. Mother Goose will perform at 10:30 am and 5:30 pm. The fair will feature teachers and administrators from area preschools, pediatric doctors and dentists, museum curators, educational support workers and other friends from the community who help children succeed. Come for information, activities and goodies!
The musical duo Two Right Feet will be here Wednesday, November 13 at 10 a.m. All are welcome to come dance along to the tunes.
On Saturday, November 16, the Hampstead Stage will perform Return to Narnia: Prince Caspian at 2 p.m. This two-person company often needs volunteers from the audience to help tell the story, so come ready to act!
The Read Dogs will be back on Saturday, November 23 from 1-2:30 p.m. Our furry friends Kelly and Lily love to listen to children read.
The month will wrap up with our annual visit from jolly old St. Nick. Join us Saturday, November 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for photos with Santa. Angel Moon Photography will charge $10 per photo, and provide a frame for your child to decorate.
We look forward to seeing you this November in the children’s room!
Do you know that one of the very best ways to encourage learning is to spend time sharing books? Reading to and with your child helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide solid foundations that are key to school success. For that reason, the Bristol Public Library is beginning a new free program called 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.
Please visit us in the children’s department to register your infant, toddler, or preschooler (up to 5 years and not-yet-enrolled in kindergarten) and receive a book bag and logs to help you keep track of your reading. Once you’re signed up, check in with us to receive special rewards for every one hundred books read. Upon completion of reading 1,000 books, your child will receive a special book, a reading diploma, a picture on the “Reader’s Hall of Fame”, a special letter to the principal of his/her new school, and more. This is a great way for your child to begin his/her academic career as a star reader!
This program is possible thanks to the Friends of the Bristol Public Library, who have lovingly sponsored us in our new endeavor.
The fall session of Story Times and Reading Clubs begins in just one week! We have programs for children of all ages from infants through fifth grade. Please join us as often as you like for stories, songs, crafts, movies and activities. Our first day of story time is Monday, October 7.
The Children’s Department at the Bristol Public Library proudly announces that Story Times and Reading Clubs begin OCTOBER 7, 2013 and run for TEN WEEKS through December 13, 2013! Registration is NOT required for story times or reading clubs in the Children’s Department at the Bristol Public Library…just come to the library and have FUN! Please visit our FACEBOOK page to view the FALL 2013 schedule! We look forward to an exciting and fun time at the library!
In today’s tough economy, Bristol Public Library System offers free resources to help people find jobs and learn new skills. People of all ages and backgrounds borrow materials, gather for book discussions, and bring their children to storytime. By visiting Bristol’s libraries, people come to find their place in this community. Bristol Public Library System helps this community thrive.
And now we need you to keep us thriving! Won’t you join us in the Bristol City Council chambers for our budget hearing at 6 pm on March 19 and show the Council that you support your libraries?
